2 wheel freedom

last night i took the kids down to the park next to our house. before we left i took off makenzie's training wheels on her bike and put on all of their protective gear (helmet, knee and elbow pads). ethan of course wanted to put his on once makenzie was all in her stuff. as we started out from the garage, makenzie was not too keen on the idea of riding around on two wheels and the instinct was to slam on the brakes. slowly we made our way down to the park with all of the "i can't do it", "i am going to get hurt", etc... we made it down to the flat part with the nice and wide pathways. ethan on his blue dolphin. we went back and forth with me holding on to the back of her seat and her peddling. i had to keep reminding her of that because she just wanted to coast. after about 5 minutes she was doing it on her own. i was so proud. i called right away to have cherisse come down with the camera and camcorder.

while we were waiting for cherisse to come down and record this moment, makenzie walked over toward the backyard where some boys were playing and started talking to them, telling them all about her posse (thats my dad and he fixes things and that is my brother who runs fast). as she would ride her bike by their back yard she would trash talk with them. "i am riding my bike on two wheels." she would eventually crash into the grass after worrying more about talking to the onlookers and less about keeping the bike going. in the short time that we were down there she managed to ride for some good distance and turn around.
ethan kept seeing makenzie get attention when she would slow down and lay the bike down, so he started crashing the dolphin in the grass and would wait for the sympathy.
now a little more practice and we can make some jumps!
