lets go fly a _ _ _ _

it was a sunny and blustery day here in our neck of the woods on Saturday so after all of the fun with ruby and sandy i took the kids down and we got some "one and done" kites. we got them home and before we could even get out the door makenzie had manage misplace or lose the piece that holds the whole kite together. a quick search around the house and i managed to find a wire hanger that held up for the most part, not as sturdy as a Chinese pole but it worked. ethan on the other hand was in a mess of his own. he managed to tangle most of his string into a ball. we then got down to the park, got makenzie up and running and then just attached ethans creation to the bottom of his Thomas kite and off he went. they managed to tangle their kites a couple of times but overall it was a clean operation. after a while makenzie nose dived hers into a back yard next to the park and so while trying to recover the kite and get it back up ethan pulled another one out of his "i am a boy" hat. he had the string that was not in his ball, wrapped around 3 separate trees. and he was not even done yet. we got them back up and going. the dark clouds were rolling closer and the kids were getting less and less amused by the flying plastic.

makenzie kept asking when we were going to the park and ethan kept wandering around. once he managed to get all the way back to the street. when i got him he was pointing down the street at a vw bug. he kept saying, "Herbie." on our way to the park i told the kids that it was the same car as Herbie. ethan took it that it was Herbie, in a sea green color. on our walk home he stopped and patted "Herbie" on the fender and told him good job.

toward the end of our outing to the park with kites we saw some birds high in the sky flying south. not sure what they were but they were up there. we ended up hooking up ethan's thomas the tank engine train wreck to makenzie's high flyer to extend how high makenzie's could go. makenzie's pulled it up no problem. i hooked up the string holder to their pants and shoes and they liked that, or they were amused by their easily entertained father. when they got home they used some brother sister teamwork to get mom out of the house to show her their kite contraption.
