silver petco corvette

Saturday like the past Saturday we went down to San Diego. we went down around the middle of the day to go out to silver strand state park to play in the sand before we got together with family. the sun high in the sky was no indication of the wind that was whipping about. we got out of the car and quickly realized that it was much like the Oregon coast and not like a California beach.

growing up in Oregon rarely did you go to the beach, you went to the coast. the coast implied looking at drift wood, wearing a sweater or jacket, avoiding the chilly water, and in some form or another just trying to stay warm. the beach implies the complete opposite, basking in the sun, enjoying the warm sand between your toes, and splashing in the water. granted neither of these compare to Hawaii and we were completely spoiled for those years.

so tessa and cherisse walked around for about 5 minutes before they got cold enough to go back to the car while makenzie, ethan and i went in search of whole sand dollars. we ended up finding 3, having to compete with all of the people who were out on the usually vacant beach. presidents day filled up the camper sites and the beach with sand dollar scavengers. ethan insisted on bringing his soft bat out of the car, thinking that we were at petco. ethan use to run straight for the water but his sense of cold must have kicked in because he and kenzie were running from each wave that came up. there were also some kite surfers making their run up and down the beach.

once we left drove down through coronado and found beach access on the bay side. the kids did not want to be there in the first place and trying to take some family photos felt like swimming across the bay while pulling a tire from the expedition. makenzie was grumpy, and cold. ethan did not want to sit still he just wanted to run back towards the car, which meant onto the street. off to the side of the park was a stretch of beach that they could run around on so we ran around there for a bit and watched the boats go by. eventually the kids wore down or forgot about not wanting to take pictures and we got some. not perfect but 3 kids under the age of 4 what more can you ask for. you can see in the pictures that when we first got there cherisse tried to take a picture and they wanted nothing to do with it, except for tessa. some people ended up coming down to the end of the walkway to take pictures also. they kept looking at tessa and commenting on her eyes, chubby cheeks, and her constant trail of drool down her 3 chins. they were nice enough to take our picture in the end, and wanted to take some pictures of just tessa. strange but oh well.

we had some time to burn before dinner and so we stopped by petco so that the kids could burn off some energy. they got out played. our 3 person attempt at playing baseball lasted a whole couple of minutes and then it was on to the playground before the sun finally set.
usually when we get out of the house the kids are great, just being out as long as the trip is not too long. today they took naps but were on the cranky side. tessa was great until the trip home, and makenzie and ethan were wonderful on the trip home. it could have been worse and all of them could of had one of those days, or they could be bad all the time.

finally we met up with the storrs, thunstroms, lori, and cherisse's uncle's family at corvette diner for dinner. this place is never boring. i forgot to bring in the camera so we did not get any pictures except from outside.
