mormon battalion

Saturday we ventured down to old town San Diego to participate in a bunch of activities related to the Mormon battalion. the weather cleared up on what was suppose to be a wet weekend. the weather ended up being perfect and the rain held off until we left later that night. activities included making dolls, cooking biscuits over the coals, marching around the square, hearing and feeling the cannon go off, panning for gold, playing period instruments and toys, and much more. the nice part was that we got to spend almost the entire day with grandma and grandpa. both makenzie and ethan were so excited when they showed up. makenzie was grandmas shadow as they went around from booth to booth. ethan had his moments of interest in those activities but towards the end wanted to run free. that made it tough when we ate at the Mexican restaurant and ethan wanted to go back out and run around in the courtyard or from store to store. makenzie was content with having all of grandmas attention. tessa on the other hand was an absolute gem. she sat in the stroller for a couple of hours with nothing to fuss about. she was probably stoked to see all of the people moving about in front of her and being outside. but i guess when you have 3 kids your day can be made or broken on how they behave and feel.
nice and calm day with no rush and nothing to hurry back to. old town is a nice little oasis not quite downtown in the middle of san diego but it is a nice place to be on a Saturday. we have been before but it made it easier with the kids activities. what ever stake or stakes that came together to put this on did a real nice job, and lets not forget all of the missionaries that were there lending a helping hand.
