bloody mess, not really
yesterday makenzie had to go and get some blood drawn. besides the fact that she recognizes that we are going to any sort of kaiser facility from 3 miles away it was a treat to take here there. dragging her into the waiting room. she would get distracted now and then but most of the time it was whining and crying. those sweet looks from people who are thinking, "are they ok or do i need to call child services, where is that security guard." so with the help of 2 nurses, 2 suckers and 2 stickers she filled her 2 vials. the nurse gave ethan 2 suckers and 2 stickers, i think that they felt bad for him to have to watch those horrible nurses torture his sister. so they taped it up and put a cotton swab on it. then makenzie was ok, apart from the fact that for the next 20 minutes she kept telling cherisse that it was her fault that the nurses did this horrific thing to her. no one could get near her right arm, let alone touch it.
i told her when i got home that we would need to take it off and she just broke down into tears. i tried to tell her that it would smell or anything that a 4 year old would deem acceptable to take off this badge of honor. before she went to bed and she got in the shower. more convincing afterwards and she was not going to budge. it was staying on.she fell asleep and right before cherisse and i went to sleep we tried to take it off. in the dark we tried to find the end of the tape. i fumbled around and found the end and began to slowly and delicately pull off the tape. i was almost to the end and she sat up, wide awake. cherisse and i just looked at each other and knew that our covert operation had been blown wide open. i yanked the rest off expecting a banshee scream that would awaken all within a mile radius. makenzie reached over to her wound and felt no band-aid and proclaimed in a giddy mood that she had taken the band aid off herself. like good parents that had just been caught in the act and realizing that we were going to get off the hook, asked her how she did it and followed up with a line of questions to keep her mind off us two. "i took it off all by myself and it does not hurt." she was so happy and it was a 180 turn from earlier in the day.
