a day out with dad

this was the day that i took makenzie and Ethan around on a tour of San Diego for the whole day. we started off the day by going down to Petco park in the park, not for a Padres game but to play in the park/outfield. there was a playground, mini baseball field, and a bunch of dogs running around on the grass area. there were a few other kids there playing and ethan managed to bum a sucker off of some "feel sorry for ethan" mother. makenzie followed ethan back to the source until they both had blow-pops. makenzie was a little scared of all the dogs running around chasing balls and birds and ethan treated them all like there were as big as him. he would run right up to them and try to take the ball from their mouth. some ladies let ethan throw the ball to their dogs and he loved that. makenzie was content with standing back and watching ethan with the 3 ladies.
at some point we went and ate lunch in downtown SD. we went to albertsons and grabbed some chicken, potatoe wedges, some strawberry milk, and some dibs (those chocolate coated ice cream nuggets). they had some tables and chairs outside on the sidewalk where we sat and watched people. they ate some of the food and touched only a few of their dibs. ice cream was not on their mind but all of the other things that we had been talking about. they were ready to go.
after that we headed up to the wild animal park and took a ride on the balboa park minature train and the balboa park carousel. if you ever come down to san diego you have to check these two things out. the train is like $1.50, and the merry-go-round is about the same. the train ride is highlighted by spotting bunnies running around the tracks, did not hit any. the merry-go-round is pretty old, lots of different animals, and an old organ in the middle. ethan, each time around, would wave his hand at the conductor.
from there we ventured over to Coronado and played on the beach for a bit. capped off the day by going to sea world to see some dolphins and shamoo's friends. overall we did a little bit of everything and gave mom the day off.
